Presented by Dr. Darius Green
Undue police violence refers to the unjustified uses of inherently violent force of law enforcement officers that cause physical and psychological harm. Due to recurring news and mass protests, undue police violence has been spotlighted as a relevant issue for counselors to grapple with. Whether directly or vicariously experienced, evidence has linked undue police violence to various indicators of psychological distress. Recent research on racial trauma and undue police violence suggests that gaps exist in counselors’ competence in addressing these issues. This presentation will enhance counselors’ competence in preventing and addressing traumatic stress associated with systems of law enforcement.
