How to support your local ACA Branch

Ready to make a difference?

by MNCOUNSELING on May 6th, 2019

Professionals, students, retirees and other individual members are welcome as volunteers for the MnCA. There are many ways you can join in from helping with a one-time event such as the Fall Conference, or by serving on a committee. Perhaps you have the skills to lead a committee as their Chair!

Consider some hands-on work within a committee. Chairs represent their respective committees at board meetings and provide a report on current activities and outcomes. Each Chair is responsible for organizing their respective committee meetings, with assistance by other members as needed for larger events.

Executive Committee: This committee works directly with the president, secretary, and treasurer. Duties include but are not limited to: help facilitate bimonthly newsletters, create processes and procedures for the board of directors, maintain board agendas and meeting minutes, and facilitate yearly board of directors elections.

Marketing Committee:
This key committee coordinates and disseminates vital information of interest to the membership. Directed by the Marketing Chair, quarterly newsletters are sent out to MnCA members regarding trainings and events pertinent to the counseling field, training and workshops, and networking opportunities. This committee monitors the public face of the Association and acts quickly to respond to questions pertaining to the organization.

Legislative Committee: A key committee for members with an interest in the political process. This committee performs research and coordinates information for the current and upcoming legislative sessions. Members work with our lobbyist (when applicable), the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (BBHT), and other stakeholders to identify and address legislative needs. The committee informs MnCA members of action items that need attention and representation.

Membership Committee:
The committee assists with member/institutional member recruitment and retention activities, and provides a presence at the Fall Conference. This committee is responsible for assisting members with any issues or concerns that may arise, and directs members to the appropriate resource for their need.

Professional Development Committee: This committee works year round and is chiefly responsible for the planning and coordination of MnCA sponsored events and training, including the annual conference.

Equity and Inclusion Committee: This committee is responsible for ensuring MN therapist are educated on multicultural topics. They help to create learning opportunities and disseminate educational pieces to the membership at large.

To volunteer for any role with the Minnesota Counseling Association, please send an email of interest to the secretary at in which you state your area of interest. The secretary will forward your email to the appropriate Committee Chair, who will then contact you directly about your interest in serving within MnCA.
